Grandfather of The Son(s), perhaps?

What can I tell you about The Son(s).

Well, not much really, except the debut album, which promises to be one of the finest of the year, is set for release on March 7, 2011, and a couple of releases are available now to tease you with their mystery and guile.

The excellent Kowalskiy blogspot yields a little more information, citing to an unnamed acquantance of The Son(s), who is cagey but does offer that:

“The Son(s) were three men, in a band, in Edinburgh, and I knew them then.
One Son went to London and made his fortune in the movies.
Another Son went to Oxford and lives in a small commune there.
The last Son eventually went back to the North East of Scotland and wrote and recorded these songs.”

So there’s one Son who shall be deemed responsible for the exquisite sounds to be found on the forthcoming album. And, if I were him, I’d take full responsibility in the most public of manners because the music on the eponymous debut album is lush, inquisitive, yearning and soaking in human emotion

Comparisons have been made between The Son(s) and Bon Iver and I’d say that’s a perfectly fair thing to say. Iron and Wine has also been cited as another touchstone so you’ll probably have the general genre in mind now.

I’d say, if you want to be the hip dude on your block, you should get along to The Son(s) bandcamp page and order the album right this minute because it says there the “high quality digifile” to be released March 7 will be a limited edition of 100 and I have no doubt it will gone soon and a collector’s item in no time as the album percolates into the world’s conscience.

Even though this will be the first full-length album by The Son(s), this is no callow youth making the music. It’s mature, accomplished songwriting delivered with a world-weary, laconic air that is extremely alluring.

There is a pleasant mystery to The Son(s) that somehow suits the mood of the music, which, in turn, is perfectly complimented by the cover style which feature a series of photographs from (I would surmise) a bygone age in the Highlands or Islands of Scotland that is now just an echo.

Where have you been to, where did you go?

The album will be given a general release on Olive Grove Records, which is another hint that something good is coming our way, as it is the label run by the good burgher of Peenko and the lady of the Glasgow Podcart, both cutting-edge Scottish indie blogs that know cutting-edge superior indie music when they hear it.
